It comes as no surprise to locals that there is plenty to do in Sarasota during the month of October. What can we say, this town loves Halloween! To get you in the spooky spirit, we’ve put together a list of 7 thrilling activities you can do on your own, or with the whole family for Halloween this year!

1. Oscar Scherer Haunted Trail

Oscar Scherer State Park has an annual haunted trail event every Halloween season. They have a Haunted House and a Scary Trail if you’re really in the mood to spook your socks off. The Trick or Treat Trail, on the other hand, is great for those who prefer candy over spooks! The festivities take place for just one weekend in October, Friday October 26th and Saturday October 27th, so make sure you make plans and purchase tickets ($10 for adults, $5 for kids and FREE for young ones under 5) before it’s gone!

2. Fright Night on St. Armands

Join the community on Sarasota’s gem, St. Armands Circle for their 10th annual Fright Night on October 31st. St. Armands transforms into a Halloween lover’s paradise on this one night of the year, with fun for everyone. There will be trick or treating, statues dressed in their spookiest attire, and a performance of “Thriller” put on by the Sarasota High School Drama Department.

3. Boo Run 5K

For our more active readers, the annual Boo Run 5k in Lakewood Ranch is on October 27th this year! This will be the 15th annual Boo Run and the event has become a local tradition amongst full-time residents and seasonal Floridians alike. There will be a costume contest with awards for the best dressed, so come with you competition game face on! This event is family friendly, so bring on the grandkids!

4. Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Festival

Looking for a casual Pumpkin Patch outing? Head over to Fruitville Grove’s 30th annual pumpkin festival. Many of the activities are free, including admission, parking, the petting zoo, the playground, live music, and decorated photo spots. The festival is open every weekend in October, with a costume contest every Saturday and a pie eating contest every Sunday.

5. Bradenton Beach Ghost Tour

Hear stories and learn about the history of Bradenton and the ghosts that haunt it on Bradenton Beach at this family friendly event! Bring your friends, your “boo,” and your family Tuesdays-Saturdays all October long to enjoy this 90-minute tour.

6. BOOFest

Have a ghostly time at Lakewood Ranch’s annual BOOFest on October 26th. Bring your bags for trick or treating, listen to music, enjoy a spooky balloon artist, and watch local dancers!

7. Halloween Spooktacular Celebration

On October 28th Sarasota Children’s Garden and Art Center is hosting their 15th annual Halloween Spooktacular Celebration. There will trick or treating, family friendly events, and a spooky costume contest with prizes.

There are many things to do around town to celebrate the Halloween season in Sarasota. From spooky ghost stories to spine chilling, pumpkin-tastic celebrations, you will have lots to do! So put your costume on, grab your trick-or-treat bags and broomsticks, and don’t forget to watch out for ghosts!
